Quichua Women

God is doing something very special in Capulispungo! Faby began a women’s bible study, and 16 women attended! Through this study we are learning that the women have been long neglected in leadership training in the church, and they are longing for such. Pray for Faby and wisdom to lead this group.
The men have begun an inductive bible study course. This is a first, because they are learning to study the bible on their own. We just meet to review their work and answer questions.

Between Riobamba and Quito

We’re spending this whole week in Riobamba working with the Semila seminary. Faby gave her third workshop for Sunday school teachers. They’re eager to learn. I’m meeting with the director’s wife, Donata, to plan the new missions program for the seminary.
Sunday we were in Quito to help with the church program. The church continues to use our house: the service under the shelter roof, the youth by the well, and the kids in the back porch. After the service some of the youth got into a competitive card game while the adults chatted.
We´re still between two cities, but trying to spend more time in Riobamba.

All in a day’s work

So what have I been doing these days? Mostly working with the Semila seminary in Riobamba. This past week we helped with a couple who visited the seminary from El Salvador. He turned out to be a wonderful musician, and we put together an impromptu music session one night on the balcony. I also helped translate one afternoon for the North American conference speaker. And as part of the new mission program at the seminary, we took the three girls from Holland to visit Capulispungo.

We celebrated our 29th anniversary in a rain forest called, “Mindo.” The birds gave us a full chorus each morning and evening. We met lots of nice folk, and we able to rest a few days before returning to the ministry. We are working with the seminary in Riobamba to put together a missions program, and we need the Lord’s direction and help. He is faithful!

International Wedding

I had the privilege of conducting the wedding for Andrew and Chan Xilin on Saturday. Andrew speaks both English and Spanish, but the bride, her sister, and her mom do not know Spanish. So I spoke first in English (for the benefit of the bride) and then translated for myself into Spanish. At the same time the bride’s sister translated from English into Cantonese for the benefit of her mom who doesn’t speak English. We made it through the ceremony! The couple plans to live in Hong Kong, the bride’s home country.
