Can you prove it?

Can you prove the existence of God? NO!
Can you prove the law of gravity? NO!
But we understand that gravity moves objects.
And we understand that God moves people.
That's why we serve in Ecuador among the Quichua.
(For more details of "the proof" see my father's article written in 1997:
"Scientific Facts and Religious Beliefs" )

Real Progress!

IMG_6490

One way to measure progress among the students is to give an exam to "see how much they've learned." Ten students in Capulispungo took an exam for the second book of level two in the FLET bible course. And they did fairly well. All of them passed to the third book. This is one type of "progress." But I was pleased to see something else going on. During the lunch break, I went outside to find them in a group discussing the question: "When did human philosophy start?" Since this unit is on Genesis, they had the idea of "beginnings." The book doesn't discuss "human philosophy," but they were developing original questions. For me, this is progress. They can come up with new ideas. Then they began to mull over the idea of God and man wrestling together (Jacob and the angel), and the man winning! Wow! A man "beat" God. I'm not so concerned about their answers at this point, but I admire that they are formulating their own questions. Now THAT is progress!

Get involved!

We enjoyed the visit from Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington D.C. of Melody Istrati, Matilde Palmer, Caitlyn Muteru, John Moran, and Mark Moran. We visited three Quichua communities: Capulispungo, Cachisagua, and Sablog, leading workshops on physical and spiritual health, and participating in a special program for children. They enjoyed getting involved with the people. An unforgettable experience!

A little of everything.

On Sunday, we were the godparents of the newlyweds. Pati was a student of mine in the seminary "Semila."

And we escaped from the wedding to drive to Cachisagua to rehearse with the kids and adults for our program next Sunday.

Saturday, I held a very productive meeting for FLET in Sablog, even though I only had three students. We reviewed some basic techniques for bible study, and since I could give them personal attention, they learned fast. Wonderful to have such eager students!

Never know what kind of photo you can take while driving. This one came out pretty well.
